First Parish Social Action Community Board announces:
One time $3,000 Help Homeless Children grant
The Social Action Community Board (SACB), due to the generosity of a congregation member of First Parish in Concord, offers this one time opportunity for applicants to submit a proposal for a $3,000 grant to help address the issue of children’s homelessness within the United States.
The grant is specifically targeted to replicable, entrepreneurial projects that help American homeless children. The SACB strongly believes all children need to grow up and be nurtured in a secure home environment and that homelessness is a direct link to a host of problems, including health and learning. Our preference is for entrepreneurial projects that become ongoing and eventually solicit funding from other organizations. The SACB wants to encourage entrepreneurship and hopes this seed grant can lead to a more profound impact.
The grantee will be required, among other reporting requirements, to provide a plan to become self-sustaining. In addition, as the SACB wishes to share the enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit of this grant, the grantee is required to make a presentation to our congregation within one year of the project completion.
The grant application period begins now and ends March 31. The Social Action Board’s Help Homeless Children sub-committee will reach a decision within 6 weeks of the application deadline. The grant will be disbursed in two equal installments. No grant applicant is required to be a Unitarian Universalist or have any UU affiliation.
The Social Action Community Board is a committee made up of 11 First Parish members, under the direction of the Social Action Program Director. Our mission is to “honor, educate, act, and lead on environmental and social justice issues.” We welcome this opportunity to offer this grant to a deserving project.
